Some of the most innovate menswear design is emerging from sportswear. There is an ability to be daring, to experiment with textures in innovative ways and to create statement pieces without the constraints of traditional fashion houses. For high summer, River Island‘s latest offering into the world of exploratory sportswear plays with traditional athletic aesthetics, both on and off the field. There are influences from different sports, playing to the huge sporting events of the year from the Superbowl to the World Cup. There is a minimal, urban appearance that weaves it’s way through the collection, with an emphasis on simplicity that can be seen on an urban mesh bomber, mesh mix basketball shorts and oversized rib trim sweat – also integrating the mishmash of materials.
